This week's question:
What are you most looking forward to this fall/autumn season – A particular book release? Halloween? The leaves changing color? Cooler temperatures? A vacation?
Two answers for this one, lol. First, my husband's first paycheck since May. YAY!! He's a full-time graduate student so it's clearly a 9-month gig. Sept. 30 can't come quite fast enough! Second, canning. :-) Were you expecting that one? I absolutely adore making peach butter, cinnamon pear jam, apple butter, etc. and fall is the best time to do it. (The house gets so hot at other times of the year and that somehow translates to me being too lazy to can things.) So, I cannot wait for a bushel of peaches from my great uncle so that I can make goodies to both have at home and give away for Christmas. :-D

This week's question:
Q: If you could change the ending of any book (or series), which book would you choose? Why and to what?
I have to admit that nothing is coming to mind right off the bat. There had definitely been a couple of endings that threw me for a loop (POSSESSION) and there have definitely been some major cliffhangers (ASHES), but I wouldn't change either/any of those. It may be a cop-out, but I honestly can't think of an ending that I was so upset with that I would want to re-write it at the moment.
TGIF is a weekly meme hosted by Ginger at GReadswhere she poses a thought-provoking question to prompt some blogger discussion!
Making a Difference:
Which book(s) would you put in the hands of today's teenagers in hopes of making a difference in their lives?
Which book(s) would you put in the hands of today's teenagers in hopes of making a difference in their lives?
I would start with Speak and Wintergirls by Laurie Halse Anderson because I think that it speaks a lot to the teenage experience even while dealing with situations that the majority of teens will never face. The same goes for If I Stay by Gayle Forman. I would say that those three books say a lot about what it is like to be a teenager. In my opinion, they offer support and understanding for teens in similar situations and they offer the opportunity for greater empathy for teen who will never experience these kinds of things. They talk about difficult choices--a theme that will ring true with all teens.
HAPPY FRIDAY!!!
(PS ~ See that link at the top of the page? The one for my potential 2012 challenge? Would you be so kind as to take a look and leave some feedback? I'd love to get an idea of if this is something that people would be interested in. Or just answer the poll in the sidebar. Thanks!!)

I've heard some mixed things about POSSESSION, but I'm still kind of interested in reading it. :)

Nice answers. I had no idea so many people canned, but you're like the 5th person to mention it this week. Impressive! And I love your follow Friday answer. Mine is pretty similar. Have a good weekend!

I haven't read Possession or Ashes but I definitely need to! I also agree that Katniss' reaction to Prim's death should have been more "OMG that was my sister!" LOL!Farrah Penn

This week’s question is perfect for Labor Day weekend with the “official” end of summer and all.
ReplyDeleteI’m all about fall! I love all four seasons and I’m sorry to see summer go (I hope to get in a few more swims in my pool) but I’m also amped up for Autumn.
Why?
For most of the same reasons we all like autumn – fall foods, Halloween, the chill in the air, changing leaves and candy corn. But I’ve got a scary slant to why I’m angling for autumn. Hop on over to my book blog at http://www.howardsherman.net to read all about the murder, mayhem, seriously spooky stuff and even some BSP!
Happy Labor Day Weekend!

Oh goodness. I think you are right about Speak! That is a good one to give to the younger peeps.
ReplyDeleteI threw Breaking Dawn across the room when I finished it. (Which is not normal and has not been done since.) There were so many loose ends the having the typed The End just made me mad & frustrated.
Hope you have a great weekend,

Laurie Halse Anderson is a great author for teens. Everyone should read Speak, though I haven't read Wintergirls yet. I'd like to be around your house during canning time...the aroma must be mouth watering! Thanks for hopping to my blog. I only am excited about lesson planning because I finally have my curriculum down. It's time to make new improvements:) Get the kids excited (plus my sophomore team teachers are so enthusiastic, I have to keep up).
