My Thoughts...
Inbetween, for me, was a real "feel good" read. It pulled me in to its world with the complex web of reapers and souls and humans and had me totally engrossed in its storyline. Each character pulled at my heartstrings in some little way and gave me the much sough-after connection that I'm always looking for. This romantic pleasure read that is a fun weekend read to make you smile.
Finn and Emma's romance is so sweet. I loved watching Finn as he tries to rekindle his relationship with Emma, who is actually the reincarnation of Allison, a soul he previously reaped and fell in love with (bit NO-NO there). His protective nature sometimes seems a little stalkerish but as I got to see more of what Maeve was doing to poor, unsuspecting Emma, well, I thought his constant presence was probably quite warranted and necessary!
Beyond the romance, I like how Ms. Fuller establishes the different "types" of reapers. There isn't a single type of reaper--each level of the afterlife has its own sets that are sent to reap those who "belong" to them. I felt like this was really unique and interesting to learn about. I do wish that possibly we had gotten to know more of the backstory of the main reapers in the story (Finn, Easton, and Anaya), but overall, Easton and Anaya were really great characters to get to know, even the little parts we did see. I hope maybe we get to see their stories in the future because I think that they probably have really interesting stories to share.
In terms of side characters, Easton and Anaya were fun, but Cash, Emma's best friend and neighbor, was my absolute favorite. I loved him and pretty much every moment that we got to spend with him. He, in my opinion, walked a line between typical teenage boy and girl's best friend. He's totally there for Emma when she needs him...except when he's off being a hormonal teenage boy, you know? The side character that I would have liked to see more developed? Emma's mom. She makes these random, brief appearances, but I never felt like I had much to go on in terms of liking or disliking her. She was just a passing presence.
Overall, I'd definitely recommend this one to fans of sweet romance and forbidden love. It avoids the almost expected love triangle scenario and wraps up nicely without an upsetting cliffhanger. Ms. Fuller's writing is enjoyable and she's definitely an author that I'll look for more from in the future.
