Shatter My by Tahereh Mafi

Summary:

Juliette hasn't touched anyone in exactly 264 days. The last time she did, it was an accident, but The Reestablishment locked her up for murder. No one knows why Juliette's touch is fatal. As long as she doesn't hurt anyone else, no one really cares.
The Reestablishment said their way was the only way to fix things, so they threw Juliette in a cell. Now so many people are dead that the survivors are whispering war- and The Reestablishment has changed its mind. Maybe Juliette is more than a tortured soul stuffed into a poisonous body. Maybe she's exactly what they need right now.

Juliette has to make a choice: Be a weapon. Or be a warrior.

I was lucky enough to read an ARC of this book courtesy of Once Upon a Twilight Book Tours and it was fabulous! I plan on pre-ordering a copy all my own when it comes out it November. It's seriously a fabulous book.

Graveminder by Melissa Marr

Summary:
Rebekkah Barrow never forgot the tender attention her grandmother, Maylene, bestowed upon the dead of Claysville, the town where Bek spent her adolescence.

Now Maylene is dead and Bek must go back to the place—and the man—she left a decade ago. But what she soon discovers is that Maylene was murdered and that there was good reason for her odd traditions. It turns out that in placid Claysville, the worlds of the living and the dead are dangerously connected...

If you read my review of this book, then you know that I LOVED it.  It was a seriously fabulous read. I won my original copy from Goodreads and passed it along to a friend who passed it along to a friend and so on.  Now I really want my own copy! Someday. :-)

The Clearing by Heather Davis

Summary:

In this bittersweet romance, two teens living decades apart form a bond that will change their lives forever.
Amy is drawn to the misty, mysterious clearing behind her Aunt Mae’s place because it looks like the perfect place to hide from life. A place to block out the pain of her last relationship, to avoid the kids in her new town, to stop dwelling on what her future holds after high school.
Then, she meets a boy lurking in the mist—Henry. Henry is different from any other guy Amy has ever known. And after several meetings in the clearing, she’s starting to fall for him.

This was one of the first books that I read in 2011 and I kind of can't believe I didn't blog about it! It was a fabulous read.  It's the kind of easy-to-read book that makes you smile and want to pick up on a rainy day for a quick read. :-)

Anna Dressed in Blood by Kendare Blake

Summary:
Just your average boy-meets girl, girl-kills-people story...

Cas Lowood has inherited an unusual vocation: He kills the dead. So did his father before him, until he was gruesomely murdered by a ghost he sought to kill. Now, armed with his father's mysterious and deadly athame, Cas travels the country with his kitchen-witch mother and their spirit-sniffing cat.

When they arrive in a new town in search of a ghost the locals call Anna Dressed in Blood, Cas doesn't expect anything outside of the ordinary: track, hunt, kill. What he finds instead is a girl entangled in curses and rage, a ghost like he's never faced before. Since her death, Anna has killed any and every person who has dared to step into the deserted Victorian she used to call home. But she, for whatever reason, spares Cas's life.
If you read my review yesterday of this book, then you know that I LOVED it.  It was a seriously fabulous read and I'm contemplating how to convince my husband to let me pre-order a copy (along with Bloodlines and Possess...because I do want free shipping after all!!)

Hex Hall & Demonglass by Rachel Hawkins

Hex Hall Summary:
Three years ago, Sophie Mercer discovered that she was a witch. It's gotten her into a few scrapes. Her non-gifted mother has been as supportive as possible, consulting Sophie's estranged father--an elusive European warlock--only when necessary. But when Sophie attracts too much human attention for a prom-night spell gone horribly wrong, it's her dad who decides her punishment: exile to Hex Hall, an isolated reform school for wayward Prodigium, a.k.a. witches, faeries, and shapeshifters.
By the end of her first day among fellow freak-teens, Sophie has quite a scorecard: three powerful enemies who look like supermodels, a futile crush on a gorgeous warlock, a creepy tagalong ghost, and a new roommate who happens to be the most hated person and only vampire student on campus. Worse, Sophie soon learns that a mysterious predator has been attacking students, and her only friend is the number-one suspect.
Demonglass Summary: (edited for spoilers)
Sophie Mercer thought she was a witch. That was the whole reason she was sent to Hex Hall, a reform school for delinquent Prodigium (aka witches, shapeshifters, and fairies). But that was before she discovered the family secret....
Sophie decides she must go to London for the Removal, a dangerous procedure that will destroy her powers. But once Sophie arrives she makes a shocking discovery...

I adored these books. Need I say more? I can't wait for the third one to come out! Maybe when it does I'll buy all three at the same time. :-)

Inside Out by Maria V. Snyder

Inside Out Summary:
I'm Trella. I'm a scrub. A nobody. One of thousands who work the lower levels, keeping Inside clean for the Uppers. I've got one friend, do my job and try to avoid the Pop Cops. So what if I occasionally use the pipes to sneak around the Upper levels? The only neck at risk is my own…until I accidentally start a rebellion and become the go-to girl to lead a revolution...
I just finished this book last week (from the library) and I really want to add it to my personal collection.  It was a really great read! (Review coming next week...hopefully)  However, the cover shown here is the UK version, which I would prefer to buy. That or the Australian cover...

Outside In by Maria V. Snyder

Outside In Summary:
Me? A Leader? Okay, I did prove that there's more to Inside than we knew. That a whole world exists beyond this cube we live in. And finding that led to a major rebellion - between worker scrubs like me and the snobby uppers who rule our world. Make that ruled. Because of me, we're free. I thought that meant I was off the hook, and could go off on my own again - while still touching base with Riley, of course. He's the one upper I think I can trust. But then we learned that there's outside and then there is Outside. And something from Outside wants In.
I am just starting this one, but after reading the first one, I already know I want to buy this one eventually! But again, the UK cover is way cooler. :-)

 Starcrossed by Josephine Angelini

Starcrossed Summary:
How do you defy destiny?
Helen Hamilton has spent her entire sixteen years trying to hide how different she is—no easy task on an island as small and sheltered as Nantucket. And it's getting harder. Nightmares of a desperate desert journey have Helen waking parched, only to find her sheets damaged by dirt and dust. At school she's haunted by hallucinations of three women weeping tears of blood . . . and when Helen first crosses paths with Lucas Delos, she has no way of knowing they're destined to play the leading roles in a tragedy the Fates insist on repeating throughout history.
As Helen unlocks the secrets of her ancestry, she realizes that some myths are more than just legend. But even demigod powers might not be enough to defy the forces that are both drawing her and Lucas together—and trying to tear them apart.
I read this book awhile ago on my NookColor and I would just REALLY like to have a hardcover copy.  I've seen it it person and I really like the cover. I was thinking about ordering a signed copy from a bookstore where she's done a signing, but we'll see.

 Birthmarked by Caragh O'Brien

Birthmarked Summary:
IN THE ENCLAVE, YOUR SCARS SET YOU APART, and the newly born will change the future.
Sixteen-year-old Gaia Stone and her mother faithfully deliver their quota of three infants every month. But when Gaia’s mother is brutally taken away by the very people she serves, Gaia must question whether the Enclave deserves such loyalty. A stunning adventure brought to life by a memorable heroine, this dystopian debut will have readers racing all the way to the dramatic finish.

I borrow this one to read from my advisor (the hardcover version).  The paperback (cover shown) comes out in October and I *think* I like it just a tad better than the hardcover version for its simplicity. I wasn't sure for awhile because I do think the hardcover version is really cool, but the paperback will be more affordable!

Prized by Caragh O'Brien

Prized Summary:
Striking out into the wasteland with nothing but her baby sister, a handful of supplies, and a rumor to guide her, sixteen-year-old midwife Gaia Stone survives only to be captured by the people of Sylum, a dystopian society where women rule the men who drastically outnumber them, and a kiss is a crime.  In order to see her sister again, Gaia must submit to their strict social code, but how can she deny her sense of justice, her curiosity, and everything in her heart that makes her whole?

This is one of my most anticipated upcoming sequels! I love this character and this world. Caragh is a fantastic writer--I can't wait to read what she has in store for this book. I wish I didn't have to wait so long on this one! It is set to be released in November (after the October release of the above hardcover).

The Fallen Series by Lauren Kate

Passion Summary:
"Every single lifetime, I'll choose you. Just as you have chosen me. Forever."
Luce would die for Daniel. And she has. Over and over again. Throughout time, Luce and Daniel have found each other, only to be painfully torn apart: Luce dead, Daniel left broken and alone. But perhaps it doesn’t need to be that way. . . .Luce is certain that something—or someone—in a past life can help her in her present one. So she begins the most important journey of this lifetime . . . going back eternities to witness firsthand her romances with Daniel . . . and finally unlock the key to making their love last. Cam and the legions of angels and Outcasts are desperate to catch Luce, but none are as frantic as Daniel. He chases Luce through their shared pasts, terrified of what might happen if she rewrites history. Because their romance for the ages could go up in flames . . . forever.
I've read the first two of these as library books and I will the third as well. I like them so much that I just need to own them someday! (not least of all because I LOVE the covers) *sigh*
