Waiting on Wednesday (15)

"Waiting on Wednesday" is a weekly bookish meme hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine where book bloggers discuss the books that they are most anxiously waiting for! (And this fabulous button was designed by my dear blogger friend Lindsay at The Violet Hour)
This week I'm waiting on...

The Devil Colony (A Sigma Force Novel)The Devel Colony by James Rollins
© 21 June 2011 by William Morrow

Goodreads Description:

Deep in the Rocky Mountains, a gruesome discovery — hundreds of mummified bodies — stir international attention and fervent controversy. Despite doubts to the bodies’ origins, the local Native American Heritage Commission lays claim to the prehistoric remains, along with the strange artifacts found in the same cavern: gold plates inscribed with an unfathomable script.

During a riot at the dig site, an anthropologist dies horribly: burned to ash in a fiery explosion in plain view of television cameras. All evidence points to a radical group of Native Americans, including one agitator, a teenage firebrand who escapes with a vital clue to the murder and calls on the one person who might help: her uncle, Painter Crowe, director of Sigma Force

To protect his niece and uncover the truth, Painter will ignite a war across the nation’s most powerful intelligence agencies. Yet, an even greater threat looms as events in the Rocky Mountains have set in motion a frightening chain reaction, a geological meltdown that threatens the entire western half of the U.S.

This isn't my usual YA pick but I've been in love with Rollins' novels for years now and I eargerly await their release each summer.  Last year's book wasn't part of the Sigma Force series and I was super disappointed.  It makes this one all the more exciting!! Rollins writes fabulous (in my opinion) science fiction that is so realistic it scares me, lol! He also has a juvenile fiction series that I haven't had the opportunity to start yet.

What are YOU waiting on this week?

I don't know this series at all, but the story sounds really interesting. I don't always read the typical stories and sometimes I need a completely different Genre in order to mix up my reading. Thanks for point this out, I'll have to check out the first book. Are they considered standalones?
